Hello! I’m Chris. I used to be a history teacher, now I’m a lawyer. But the thing I really enjoy doing is reading, writing, and discussing ideas. Teachers used to say “you’re a good writer, you should be a lawyer!” so that influenced me on that path. In many ways, I probably would have been happier, though more job insecure, as a journalist or straight up writer.
Nevertheless, this blog will be a home for all those thoughts and ideas; for exercising my writing muscle without cites to statutes or case law. If you’re reading this, I bet you’re also someone who comes across something and it sends your mind off in multiple directions, curious for more. You can expect to see a lot of those sorts of posts on here. I’m often inspired by a great article, podcast, or conversation to take an idea, play with it, and weigh in. I hope that you’ll find the things I write worthy of the same.
In addition to my day job and this blog:
I run a hobby radio station (online and with a Part 15 AM transmitter) for and with my small coastal Maine community.ā
Somewhat relatedly, I love music. I know it’s fashionable among some music lovers to say either “I love everything” or “I’m only into [insert esoteric music genre here].” I’m neither of those. I love lots of music, but I know enough about it to know I don’t love “everything.” And while I know there are plenty of artists I enjoy that you might not have heard of, Iād rather share them than feel exclusive. My favorites are Soul, Alternative, Classic Rock, Jazz, and pretty much any genre that gives you that I want to move because this song just picks me up vibe. Some current obsessions are The Decemberists, Joel Sarkaluka, Samara Joy, Solange, Nick Lowe, and my all-time favorite, Electric Light Orchestra.
